Who and What We Do:

Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota and serving more than 1.1 million people in 46 communities, Hennepin County's mission is to enhance the health, safety and quality of life of the residents and communities in a respectful, efficient and fiscally responsible way.

Hennepin County provides a full range of services including social services, community health, law enforcement, transportation, libraries and much more.
  • Social services such as administration of federal and state aided public assistance programs; provision of counseling and residential programs for persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or chemical dependency; assistance to veterans; and employment and training services.
  • Health care services including emergency care; care of the sick and injured on both an inpatient and outpatient basis; disease prevention and health education.
  • Public safety and judiciary services such as criminal prosecution, legal counsel for the indigent, and corrections probation programs.
  • Library services in suburban Hennepin County.
  • Maintenance and construction of highways, roads, and bridges.
  • Administration of federal, state, and county elections including maintenance of a centralized voter registration file.
  • Administration of property tax assessment, collection, and distribution for local governments with the county.
  • Comprehensive solid waste management system, including solid waste disposal facilities, recycling programs, and regulation of hazardous waste disposal.
  • Issuance of various licenses.
  • Metropolitan Health Plan (MHP) is a not-for-proft, state certified health maintenance organization (HMO) and an enterprise initiative of Hennepin County.
