What is the Opportunity?

The Sustainable Finance Group (SFG) is a cross-platform team within RBC Capital Markets that advances market leadership in sustainable finance through ESG advisory, origination, and thought leadership. This role requires experience in integrating ESG considerations into client engagements in partnership with the global SFG team. This role requires strong collaboration, communication, and analytical skills as well as commercial acumen. The Associate will ideally be based in New York.

What will you do?

Drive to Impact - Grow RBC CM's ESG Capabilities

  • Partner closely with industry coverage bankers to support the advancement of origination opportunities with sustainable companies. (e.g. ESG Data, ClimateTech, Carbon Markets, Emissions Management, Decarbonization, etc.).

  • Partner closely with RBC's Venture Capital and Private Equity team to support relationship management with GP climate fund investees, ensuring broad awareness and connectivity on strategic priorities and advancing value-creation with CM client franchises.

  • In collaboration with the Private Capital Group and relevant teams, support the expansion and management of accretive investor relationships focused on sustainability, energy transition, and impact.

  • Execute ESG pitch and integration engagements for companies together with Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets.

  • Work closely with the global Sustainable Finance Group and Environmental Markets Solutions Group to advance ESG advisory, financing, and origination opportunities.

  • Collaborate with RBC Climate Strategy and ESG Strategy enterprise teams to enhance cross-functional collaboration and optimal outcomes in support of RBC's Purpose Framework and key initiatives.

Adapt Quickly, Always Learn

  • Develop high-impact and bespoke client materials.

  • Contribute to execution of high-impact events to ensure RBC remains at the forefront of ESG innovation, energy transition, ClimateTech, etc.

  • Develop thought leadership content on timely ESG/sustainability trends and opportunities. Thematic topics may include ESG software, decarbonization, etc.

  • Identify high-impact external conferences and events to lead and/or participate in and enhance the RBC brand.

Business Knowledge:

  • Minimum 3+ years' experience in investment banking, private markets ESG consulting, and/or PE/VC investing

  • In-depth knowledge of corporate sustainability strategies as well as private market landscape of companies and investors

  • Previous track-record in Sustainable Finance and/or ESG integration

  • Knowledge of RBC CM's core businesses

  • Proven analytical and communications skills

  • Strong collaborator with relationship management skills, ability to collaborate internally, ability to navigate through potential conflicts of interest

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Experience with Pitchbook and other data tools (e.g. Bloomberg)

Preferred:

  • MBA, CFA

  • Investment Banking experience

  • Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Affairs

  • Established investor network in sustainable tech, venture capital

  • The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $130,000 - $175,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
